Bulmers, the maker of Strongbow, is the worlds largest cidermaker. The company was founded in Hereford, England in 1887 by Percy Bulmer, the son of a local clergyman. Percy made just 4000 gallons that first year. Now, Bulmers makes 65% of the five million hectolitres of cider sold annually in the UK.

In the 18th Century, India was fairly self-sufficient but the climate was not conducive to brewing. This was intolerable for the British colonists, so traders began shipping Pale Ale that would mature en route, promising the brew would arrive clean, and full of flavor. It did, and India Pale Ale became popular in India, and back home.
The Artois Brewery can be traced back to Leuven, Belgium in 1366. But it wasn't until 1926 that the pride of Belgium was born. As the spirit of Christmas permeated the crisp air of Leuven, the brewers took it upon themselves to devise a special Christmas brew. The new beer, with it's crisp taste emerged clear, clear as a star. It was thusly christened "Stella," Latin for "star."
